Infraplus Consulting was engaged to carry out Low Level Design (LLD) for the fiber network installation across Yolo County and the Town of Mammoth Lakes in California, USA. The project covered 4303 home passes over 91.59 miles of fiber network. Infraplus used ArcGIS Pro software to ensure accurate fiber network design and construction prints.

The process began by receiving input data from the High Level Design (HLD), which included Hut Locations, Aerial Images in ECW format, HLD Addresses, and Polygons. Infraplus then proceeded to verify all passings and adjust HLD routes to optimize connectivity and ensure feasibility.

The fiber network design included the creation of polygons based on capacity and guidelines provided. Each polygon had a Drop Hub or Distribution Hub strategically placed. Huts (cabinets), middle mile points, splice closures, conduits, and handholes were designed and placed appropriately. The feeder hub was connected to the distribution hub, and the distribution hub was connected to the drop hub to ensure seamless fiber distribution.

After completing the planning and design, Infraplus created a grid system for data export into construction prints. The first grid was assigned near the distribution hub for better planning.

Scope of Work:

1. Network Design & Planning:

Feeder and distribution route design based on HLD data and site feasibility
Verification of all passings and modification of HLD routes to improve connectivity
Placement of Huts (cabinets), splice closures, and fiber network components

2. GIS Mapping & Data Management:

Import Shapefiles, polygon data, and addresses into ArcGIS Pro
Create fiber network layers in ArcGIS Pro, including conduit, fiber cable, and drop hubs
Update data attributes and ensure all elements are correctly represented for implementation

3. Fiber Connectivity & Hub Design:

Design fiber connections from feeder hubs to distribution hubs and from distribution hubs to drop hubs
Plan and design fiber routes from middle mile to premises, ensuring optimal performance and cost-effectiveness
Create fiber network infrastructure, ensuring all components, including cabinets, splice closures, and access points, are accounted for

4. Construction Prints & Documentation:

Create construction prints for all fiber routes, hub placements, and network infrastructure
Export data for construction and implementation
Prepare Bill of Quantities (BoQ) in Excel, detailing materials and resources required for fiber network installation

Shapefiles containing fiber routes, hub placements, and other network components
ISP planning documents to support network installation
